-----I’ve been in relentless pursuit of the perfect printing project for several decades now. While I have seen many during my career, they have never quenched my thirst for more.
-----I am not willing to settle for anything less than the very best product any time I go to press. And I’m determined to spread this perfectionist attitude to everyone I work with. I simply don’t know any other way to operate.
-----The key to producing excellence in a production environment is to establish high standards and solid work habits from the very beginning. There are specific issues that must be learned and respected from the get-go. Once adopted, these excellence standards are as easy to maintain as poor ones.
-----Allow me to outline just four of the issues that govern my own personal standards.
-----1) No image is an island.
When there are multiple images involved in a project, ALL images must look like they were captured at the same time, with the same color balance and lighting contrast.
-----2) Detail rules!
Every image must be prepared for optimal appearance in reproduction. Both highlights and shadows must reveal detail.
-----3) Sharpness is detail.
Each image must be carefully sharpened to compensate for initial image-capture loss, and for the halftone reproduction process.
-----4) Too much is just too much.
Once a project’s line screen has been established and the image sizes have been finalized, any more resolution than 1.5 times the line screen (at reproduction size) is simply TOO MUCH. Did you know that too much resolution can actually cause a loss of detail?
---Quality is not a Goal, it's a Life Philosophy
-----Instilling this knowledge and ethic into the entire production workplace streamlines workflow and produces excellence in print. And excellence is always better than schlock!
-----While there are many outstanding instructors available to train your workforce on the How-to’s of Photoshop, precious few of them have actually worked inside the printing industry and understand its unique demands.
-----I present an in-house multi-day session that will teach your production people the Why and How Much of digital imaging. This will bring new life, efficiency, excellence, and pride into your workplace.
