-----Web presses generally belong to the offset family of presses and include both heatset and non-heatset varieties. Heatset presses are utilized for publication and catalog work while non-heatset presses are used mostly for newspaper production and other high-volume, non-critical work.

Dot Gain----------------------------------------Dot gain on web presses is higher than on offset printing presses mainly due to the higher operating speeds and lower ink viscosity. Heatset web presses have significantly lower gain than non heat-set (newspaper) presses. Dot gain on heatset presses printing on coated papers ranges between 12 and 20 per cent (depending on the grade and coating), and uncoatd papers range between 18 and 25 per cent. Newspaper presses produce the most gain which ranges between 28 and 35 percent.

Screening Frequencies-----------------------While heatset web presses are capable of printing screens as fine as 175 lpi, the norm is between 133 and 150 lpi. Non-heatset webs work best with screen frequencies below 120.
